This property is set on a one acre lakefront site at Sakanow Lake. Our clients were drawn to our more contemporary style of timber framing for this project s designed to draw the outdoors in. However, this North facing site presented both opportunities and constraints.
To capture the warmth of the Southern light, we lifted up the main roof to create a series of clerestory windows above the main living area. We incorporated skylights into the large covered deck. Large sliding doors open to a generous lakefront deck. The main living area steps down with the lay of the land. We carefully detailed that transition using precast concrete treads to create a border to the large format tile specified for the main floors. Two large sliding glass doors open to create true indoor outdoor living during the summer months.
Clerestory windows to the rear provide for a showering of natural daylight. A variety of strategic steps in the single story floorplan create a poetic vertical movement of the interior spaces. Douglas fir beams, windows and 2’x2’ ceramic tile flooring create a subdued and contemplative space for relaxation and retreat.
We worked with our long time partners, Artisan Log Homes to create a timber frame package that could be manufactured off site and quickly erected on site. Large overhangs protect the timeless beauty of the wood windows specified for this project. Birch cabinets and natural stone echo the natural beauty of the lake setting.
