Working directly with the Hotel Corporation of the Bahamas (aka Department of Tourism)
JWT was the architectural consultant advising the Prime Minister Perry Christie and his Cabinet on the development of two large development sites on Christie’s home Island, Eleuthera.
While most resort development in the Bahamas is located on Grand Bahamas and in Nassau Prime Minister Christie encouraged the development of the lesser known family Islands.
Given the vast size of the project sites James and the project manager chartered a small float plane from Nassau to capture the arial images.
Hatchet Bay is located on the Atlantic side of the Island and was badly damaged by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. It never fully recovered. This plan envisioned a new resort village and mega yacht marina.
Half Sound is located on the Caribbean side and contains a two kilometer crescent beach sheltered by a limestone peninsula. The planning effort envisioned a two thousand acre resort community with hotels, golf, beach resorts, boutique hotels. The clients requested that the project take its inspiration from traditional Polynesian resorts taking advantage of the sheltered shallow waters.
The outcome of this planning exercise was presented by James and his team to the Prime Minister and his Cabinet in Nassau over a two day period. With heads of state on our client list we are ready to work with any level of government.
