SALSA BEACH
Eleuthera Island, Bahamas
James was approached by the Amir and Rani Weissfisch, who are both brothers and a pair of Israeli developers who reside in Nassau Bahamas. James had already been working in the Bahamas on marina village in Great Exuma. These billionaire clients are close friends of the Prime Minister Perry Christie and were asked by him to create a sustainable and visionary proposal to help redevelop his home of Island of Eleuthera. JWT was given two sites to study both being approximately 4,000 acres in size, the first being Half Sound located next to Alice Town (with its natural and undeveloped harbor) and the second being Winding Bay an equally stunning site which comprise a two kilometer long pristine crescent beach located within another natural sound buffered from the Caribbean sea by a long peninsula. JWT was the architectural and resort master planning consultant for this project and came up with a vision which included a series of cliff top and beach resorts, a conference center, several resort villages. Our work was facilitated by the Resort Corporation of Bahamas, a government branch tasked with facilitating foreign investment. Together we presented our ideas to the Prime Minister and his cabinet over several days bringing their feedback into the final master plan product. We were asked to create an architecture inspired both by the Far East as well as the local West Indies flavor a fusion of styles that would be unique only to this Island. JWT’s work on this project led us to being invited to prepare plans for the redevelopment of Andros Town. On neighboring Andros Island (the largest island in the Bahamas).
