THE BLISS OF HINTON AND THE CENTER FOR HOSPITALITY STUDIES AND RESEARCH
Hinton, Alberta
JWT was engaged by a start-up company PAR999 to move forward a proposal to purchase twenty acres of land from the Town of Hinton to create Canada’s first teaching hotel and associated scholastic campus. The client’s program is ambitious and includes two hotels, a retail village, employee and student housing, a conference center and a 12,000sf college campus. We were also responsible for assisting in the rezoning of the lands, the facilitation of a redesign of the golf course win which the lands were being acquired from while communicating to the public through Mayor and Council the client’s vision. This $180 million dollar project was a result of a proposal call initiated by the Town of Hinton to create economic development opportunities. PAR999 was the successful proponent and required a skilled architect/ planner to take their vision from just words into something concrete and in which to “bank on”. We were tasked with creating a new architecture which set itself apart from both the nearby Jasper National Park and also the architecture found in BC’s many mountain resorts. Our solutions are highly developed through the creation of digital models of the designs of each of the master plan’s proposed buildings. JWT worked closely with Town staff, the client group and members of the public to both articulate and also communicate the client’s vision as well as any concerns arising from the community.
